Welcome to The Forge

Escape to The Forge, a charming, three-bedroom Northumberland holiday cottage in the peaceful valley of Coquetdale. Built with original character and thoughtfully restored, this dog-friendly retreat blends historic charm with modern comfort. Warm up by the wood-burning stove on cool evenings, or enjoy the tranquil garden under Northumberland’s wide-open skies. Nestled at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, The Forge offers the ideal base for discovering the castles, sweeping coastline, and untamed beauty of England’s most rugged county.
Our cottage lies in a small, intimate community of properties that were transformed in 2009 from a farm originally built in the 1850s by the visionary Lord Armstrong, as part of his famous Cragside Estate. With its rich history and stunning natural surroundings, The Forge captures the essence of Northumberland’s heritage and wild landscapes.
As frequent guests ourselves, we have taken great care to ensure your stay is memorable and stress-free. From plush, hotel-quality bedding and indulgent toiletries to a fully equipped kitchen stocked with all the essentials, every detail is designed for your comfort and convenience. Whether you’re staying for a few days or an entire week, you’ll find everything you need to unwind and make the most of your Northumberland adventure.
Step into a place where history meets tranquility, and leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and eager to return to our Northumberland holiday cottage.

Guest Review
“We had such a great stay at The Forge. Mary’s cottage was exactly as described and pictured. So clean and comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. Mary was so helpful to provide tips and recommendations on things to do and places to eat. We had the best time exploring the surrounding areas and could have stayed busy for days. Really such magical little corner of the world. We hope to come back someday.”
